Michael Reid

After nearly two decades as an educator and coach, I've built my life and career around listening, leading, and working collaboratively: values I now bring to my campaign for Medicine Hat City Council.

In 2023, my spouse, Vanessa Yamazaki, and I chose to make Medicine Hat our home. Born and raised here, Vanessa introduced me to the heart of this city, a strong sense of community, a vibrant local culture, and the perfect balance between small-town charm and big-city amenities. We moved to be closer to family, but we've stayed because we believe in the future of this city.

With a background in education, athletics, and leadership, I've spent over 20 years developing the skills it takes to build relationships, make tough decisions, and follow through. In 2024, Vanessa and I opened YogaRevolution, a business rooted in health, connection, and community. But our commitment doesn't stop at the studio doors.

I've been proud to serve on the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce Health and Wellness Committee, helping advocate for policies and initiatives that support the well-being of our community. I've also led the Downtown Voice business group, formerly the Downtown Collective, where I've worked alongside local entrepreneurs to strengthen the downtown core and promote a shared vision for its future.

My approach to city governance is simple: Listen to people. Focus on what matters. Get things done.

I'm not here to play politics. I'm here to work. I believe in open communication, fiscal responsibility, and prioritizing real, actionable outcomes. I bring a fresh perspective shaped by experiences across Alberta, grounded in deep respect for Medicine Hat's unique identity.

This campaign isn't about pointing fingers or pushing agendas. It's about building bridges, finding common ground, and representing the people of Medicine Hat with integrity, transparency, and purpose.
